Is it hard to get a campsite in Yellowstone? ›

It can be challenging to get a campsite in Yellowstone National Park, especially during the peak season (June through September). The park has 12 campgrounds, and seven of them accept reservations.

Cherry Campground is located on the banks of pretty Hobble Creek just six miles from Springville, Utah, at an elevation of 5,200 feet.

Fishing Bridge RV Park—elevation 7,800 feet (2377 m)—is located near the Yellowstone River where it exits Yellowstone Lake on its way toward the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Only campground in Yellowstone to offer water, sewer, and electrical hookups.

There are no electricity, water, or sewer hookups at any of the campsites. 14 public restrooms with flush toilets and faucets with cold running water. Dishwashing stations are located in most restroom buildings. Pay showers are not available on the premises.

No matter where you camp in Yellowstone, you're in grizzly country. While staying in designated campgrounds where there are many other people and noises around is safer than dispersed camping outside the park, there is still a good chance you'll encounter grizzly or black bears near a Yellowstone campground.

Grant Village and Madison are great campgrounds for visiting Old Faithful, Upper, Midway, and Lower Geyser Basins. Headwaters Campground is a great base camp for exploring both Yellowstone and Grand Teton. And don't forget that backcountry camping in Yellowstone National Park is always an option.

Loop Campground is located southwest of Grantsville, Utah, in South Willow Canyon at an elevation of 7,400 feet. It's located in the Stansbury Range where visitors enjoy exploring local trails. This campground has 9 single sites and 1 double site and has vault restroom facilities.

Located 4 miles north of Woodland Park on CO Highway 67 at the 8,200' elevation, this area is accessible by all types of vehicles.

Devils Canyon Campground is located just 13 miles south of Monticello, Utah at an elevation of 7,400 feet. Ponderosa pines, pinyon pines, and junipers cover the area offering limited shade.

The Senior Pass admits pass owner/s and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per-vehicle fee areas and pass owner + 3 adults, not to exceed 4 adults, where per-person fees are charged. (Children under 16 are admitted free.) Note: Photo identification will be requested to verify pass ownership.

Find a Camp Shower Near You

Some sites come with showers and bathrooms, while others are situated near recreation centers that allow you to shower for free (or with a reasonable daily fee). If you do opt for rinsing off in a nearby lake or river, be sure to bring along biodegradable soaps and shampoos.

How long does it take to drive the loop in Yellowstone? The Grand Loop takes 4 to 7 hours to drive depending on stops, wildlife traffic jams and other factors.

Campsites are assigned at check-in. We are not able to provide specific campsite numbers in advance of arrival. The maximum number of people per site is six or one family (parents with dependent children). Campground sites that will accommodate a maximum combined length of 40-feet or more are limited.
